Wildlife Watch Series : Whale Watching
NIN Wildlife Watch Series was crafted to bring the wonders of nature and wildlife education to Black and brown communities. Join us as we remove barriers and ignite curiosity while fostering a deep connection with the natural world.
Join us at Moss Landing, one of California's top spots to experience marine life. Home to 34 species of marine mammals and more than 180 species of seabirds and shorebirds!
Because of the cold, food-rich, and mile-deep submarine canyon just offshore, whales and marine mammals thrive here, making the area an outstanding place to see Humpback Whales. The surrounding water is also home to Sea Lions, Harbor Seals, Elephant Seals, Sea Otters; and a year-round stopping point for Orcas (Killer Whales) as they prey on northbound migrating Gray Whales.
What to WearDress for snow! We are located in a micro-climate so even when it's hot inland it can be very cold on Monterey Bay. Dress in layers, you can always remove them. Close toed shoes and waterproof jackets and pants are also recommended. No heels.
What to Bring/What Not to Bring:Bring cash for parking ($12.00). Gratuity is appreciated for a job well done! No tripods or monopods allowed. Bring snacks! If you purchased a ticket without a meal, bring a meal.
If you are prone to seasickness there’s a good chance you’ll get seasick unless you do something to prevent it! If you’re not sure, it’s better safe than sorry! Dramamine is recommended and must be taken approximately an hour prior to the boat’s departure.
